Like the title of this book states, this book features many if not all of the "skins" that cover or make up a building today. This book is one stop source for professionals or building enthusiasts who want to know about the many different types of materials that are used on exterior facades. Many architects, generally speaking, are well verse in the program, function and design of a building, but are not as keen on the various "skins" of a building. This is where the book comes in handy. With over 500 pages of content arranged into sections for each type of material (ie. glass, metals, plastics, etc.) Each spread contains a specific type of material with an explanation of its origins, technical aspect, and applications along with a photo of its application on an actual building and an enlarged photo of the material itself. This reference book should be priceless for professionals who have the layout and form set, but are debating which material to use in building it.

Skins for Buildings is a visual atlas featuring 200 of the most important types of surface materials used in contemporary architecture. It illustrates the visual and sensory impact of each of these different types of material in individual, large-format color photographs which could be considered virtual samples. Accompanying each sample are striking photographs of finished buildings that showcase the various ways in which leading international architects have put the materials to use. Materials featured have been divided into 8 families of Wood, Natural Stone, Fired Man-made Stone, Unfired Man-made Stone, Metal, Plastic, Glass and New Materials, and within each family there is an inventory to pure materials, additives and composites.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
